Sara Cook Belly Dancer Bio

Artist Sara Cook is a dancer & choreographer from New York City. She co-founded, choreographed and was a featured dancer with the ground breaking multi-media belly dance troupe-Siren Geniis (aka School Of Fish). While living in the East Village, Sara danced 3 nights weekly at the The Pyramid Club on Avenue A, performed at Copa Cabana as part of Susanne Bartsch parties, at the Limelight Club, CBGB, Nell's as a featured Jackie 60 event, Sideshow by the Sea Shore in Coney Island, Earth Day at Prospect Park & other NYC venues. Sara also danced as the one and only belly dancer in many burlesque galas such as "Wild Girl's Go Go Rama" events. Sara's illustrious career in dance that has spanned decades. The troupe she co-founded was created in the 1980's. They performed with live musicians who wrote original music specific to the troupes own choreography. As a multimedia dance group, they also performed their pieces with storylines, the use of props, projection, and various featured guest dancers. Sara has also performed with Robert Munn as part of a ground breaking 3-D multi-media slide presentations in which Cook's figure appears as an animated virtual screen. Images are seen through her suit in a piece entitled The Transparent Woman, exhibited at the San Francisco Exploratorium, at the Georgio Gimelski's birthday celebration at the New York location where the Green Door parties are held, & Depthography's The Virtual Image Gallery in New York. Over the last 8 years or so, Sara's studies began at Serena Studios, she studied at Fazils with Elena, Morocco, Jajuka, Dunya, etc. Sara eventually found her way to Sandra Catena. Sara has performed with many of Sandra Catena's Belly Dance Galas including at an Off Broadway Theatre, Lafayette Bar & Grill, at The Gershwin Hotel, Sandra Catena's own book signing, etc. With Sandra, Sara continued her studies and developed a special kind of polish to her dance that only Sandra could bring to her. Sara's pollish is visible with all of her moves and carries with her in all of the creative choreography Sara Cook is known for in the art medium of Belly Dance.
